SCAR DAY 1

Conquering the South Carolina Adventure Route on KTM 690 Enduro-R’s

DAY 1: The Pinnacle SCAR ALTERNATIVE

Hair-Raising Adventures and Caesar’s Head Escapades!

January 14th, 2024

Temperature: Started at 45°F, peaked at 55°F

Picture this: the day kicks off at a frigid 45°F, with plans to conquer the Upstate and SCAR. But first, a “Waffle House experience” that, let’s just say, left me questioning my breakfast choices. Note to self: hair and bacon don’t make for a delightful combo.

Fast forward to our first stop at the Oldest Covered Bridge in South Carolina—Campbell’s Covered Bridge. It’s the only one in the state, so why not? The ride was a brilliant warm-up for the 690, and the scenic detour was just what we needed. On to the SCAR, specifically the ‘Pinnacle SCAR Alternative,’ and boy, was it a game-changer!

Cruising through Tuxedo, under the freeway, and up Pinnacle Mountain Road was like entering a rollercoaster for bikers. Switchbacks galore, steep stretches, and, oh, the thrill! It was mind-boggling for a Canadian accustomed to snow and ice, wondering if these roads could be conquered under winter conditions.

Reaching the ‘mountain’ top (let’s generously call it that), we encountered an unpaved section that was pure two-wheeled bliss. However, my joy was dampened by the revelation about ABS and Traction Control – two party poopers that needed to be turned off ASAP. Lesson learned the hard way, thanks to Jager’s laughter.

Now, about Caesar’s Head—this unsung hero deserves a spotlight. After conquering Pinnacle Mountain, we rode up to Caesar’s Head, a crown jewel with breathtaking views that make your heart race faster than the ride itself. It’s like nature saying, “Hey, I can do hair-raising too!”

The Pinnacle SCAR Alternative is a must-ride, and the hair-raising experience is worth every thrilling moment!
